We are looking for someone with a love of Jesus and of people in all our wonderful variety!

St Mary’s is a friendly and welcoming church with a vision to grow in depth of faith, follow Jesus in offering loving service and in helping others come to know God for themselves.

We would very much like to grow as an Intergenerational Community of all ages together and hope to find someone who will join us and help to move that vision forward, developing existing activities and pioneering new.

Closing date for applications: Friday 4th October 2024

St Mary’s is a friendly and welcoming Anglican church on the south-western edge of Loughborough. Our building is small but, rather like the Tardis, conceals a lot that is going on!

Our vision is, with God’s help, to grow in depth of faith, follow Jesus in the loving service we offer and in helping people come to know God for themselves.

To further this vision, we have identified three strategic priorities for this time: to improve the hospitality of our buildings, to support and grow intergenerational worship and engagement with children and families, and to encourage good mental health and well-being in partnership with other groups and agencies.

On an average Sunday we see around 70 people across 2 services with a handful of families and children aged 2-17.

Some Sundays we run a children’s group led by a rota of volunteers, other weeks we worship as all ages together, sometimes using other locations in the parish to extend our ministry, for example Harvest in the Barn and Nativity in the Outwoods.

In 2022, we received a grant from the Growing Faith Foundation for research into how to develop Intergenerational Worship, something we are keen to take further.

We also run various midweek activities both on site and in the community.

For children these include Growing Rite, a weekly group for pre-school children and their carers meeting at a local retirement court; Starting Rite, a course for newborns and their carers; and Mossy Church held monthly in our beautiful church woodland.

We have good links with Holywell Primary School, running ‘Experience Christmas’ and ‘Experience Easter’ workshops and with the aspiration to increase our involvement.

We also have good links with Nanpantan Scouts joining together for various events - they kindly host the final stop of ‘Carols on the Move’ around the firepit and with refreshments together.

Other opportunities for community engagement include two day-nurseries and the many external hirers of our church site, some of whom run activities for children.

The role involves supporting and developing existing activities as well as pioneering new ways for children, young people and their families to grow in Christian faith across church, school and home.

Given our small and friendly size, the beauty of our site and woodland, as well as our love of creativity, music and fun, we feel there is great potential for developing Intergenerational Community at St Mary’s and that this is something God is calling us to do together.

We are looking for someone who will join us and take a lead in helping ‘join the dots’ of what we already do, and take us forward into growth. Relevant qualifications and experience are desirable, but more important is a willingness to learn and grow in professional development as well as personal discipleship.

Working closely with the vicar and other key leaders, the right person will have a vibrant personal faith with a love of Jesus as well as a love of people and the ability to build good relationships. Flexibility and imagination will be required to work across a range of contexts and with people of all ages and stages of faith.

If you think God may be calling you to this role,

we’d love to hear from you.
